Who Is Jolanta Pęksa?

At Folk Arts of Poland LLC, we bring you an exclusive collection of authentic Polish folk art. Our goal is to share the rich cultural heritage of Poland with America through pieces that are not only vibrant and visually appealing but are also steeped in tradition and history. Playing a pivotal role is Jolanta Pęksa. Who is Jolanta Pęksa? She is an incredibly talented artist whose work exemplifies the essence of Polish folk art and helps bridge the gap between these two great nations through artistry and passion.

Humble Beginnings

Jolanta Pęksa’s adventure in folk art began in 1975 when she embarked on her journey in glass painting. Influenced by her marriage into the Pęksa family—particularly inspired by her mother-in-law, Ewelina Pęksa, a renowned painter—Jolanta found herself immersed in an atmosphere where creativity and tradition thrived. This environment spurred her to unveil her work to the public in 1976 at an exhibition showcasing the Pęksa family’s artistry.

A Legacy of Recognition

Since 1978, Jolanta Pęksa has been a distinguished member of the Association of Folk Artists, a testament to her dedication to the world of Polish folk art. Her remarkable paintings have found homes in prestigious institutions across Poland, including:
• The Seweryn Udziela Ethnographic Museum in Kraków• The Karkonosze Museum in Jelenia Góra• The Dr. Tytus Chałubiński Tatra Museum in Zakopane• The Władysław Orkan Museum in Rabka-Zdrój• The Radom Village Museum in Radom• The State Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw

Inspiration and Artistic Process

Jolanta’s work as a Polish folk artist is deeply inspired by traditional themes and her keen observations of life in Podhale. She captures her visions in sketches, later transferring these ideas onto glass with a skilled hand, a testament to her remarkable ability to blend the essence of folk motifs with a unique, personal touch.
Her technique—employing brushes and feathers to outline themes in a flat, schematic style—is a modern homage to the age-old practices of folk masters, rendered in vibrant and carefully chosen hues.

Evolving Polish Folk Art

A significant evolution in Jolanta’s work emerged in the late seventies, influenced by her move to a forester’s lodge and her husband Marek Pęksa’s profession as a forester and hunter. The themes of forest life, hunting lore, and the vibrant portrayal of both the hunters and the hunted began to prominently feature in her paintings.
At her exhibitions, visitors are treated to works celebrating the verdant allure of the forest and the rich traditions of hunting, complemented by the personal touch of showcasing her husband’s collection of hunting accessories.

A Living Tradition

Jolanta Pęksa’s contribution to Polish folk art extends beyond her paintings. It is a living, breathing tradition that we at Folk Arts of Poland LLC are proud to represent. Her work not only embellishes homes and institutions but also enriches lives, offering a window into the soul of Polish culture and tradition.
