Handcrafted Wood Sculptures by Tadeusz Kacalak

Tadeusz Kacalak is a well-known folk artist recognized for his colorful carvings depicting Christian biblical themes, saints, and local village people in regional Polish costumes. He has been carving since 1972 and has received numerous artistic awards throughout Europe. In his art, Tadeusz represents joy and suffering using different techniques. He prefers linden wood and employs only the simplest tools for his carvings, while his paintings are done with muted pastel shades using water-based paints and sealing emulsions.

Where to Find His Work

Polish folk artist Tadeusz Kacalak’s carvings are in 14 Polish museum collections, as well as private and museum collections in Italy, the Vatican, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Australia, Switzerland, South Africa, France, Sweden, Czech Republic, Russia, Japan, and the United States. He is also the subject of frequent media coverage in Poland and Germany, including seven TV documentaries, 15 radio programs, and 20 newspaper and magazine articles.

Awards and Recognitions

Tadeusz Kacalak’s Polish folk art wood carvings have won many awards and recognition over the years. In 1987, he was presented the highest medal of recognition, the Stanislaw Wyspianski Award, by the Ministry of Polish Culture and Art. In 1997, he received an award from the Chairman of the Senate for outstanding artistic achievements and for representing Polish folk art abroad. In 1998, he received the Silver Cross from the President of Poland. Additionally, Tadeusz’s work is depicted in 14 different professional books on folk art.
Tadeusz has won awards in competitions throughout Poland, having participated in over 40 competitions in 19 years. In 1985 and 1986, he received high acclaim for his Nativity Scene exhibits in Bochum, Germany. Tadeusz has also mounted 10 one-man exhibitions across Europe and overseas, including three in Poland, five in Germany, one in Holland, and one in the United States.

Polish folk artist Tadeusz Kacalak has a large inventory of colorful, unique sculptures. Many of the sculptures below have been sold, yet you can order any. Tadeusz takes one to three months to carve them. When selecting and waiting for your sculpture to be ready, know that each of his sculptures is unique, but the theme is similar.
